Internet not always free

Internet blocks ... Published by da Cautela

In some corporations or offices system administrators disallow access to a particular group of web sites like facebook, myspace, youtube in order to improve productivity.

Schools do not premit students to go surf gaming, social or, worst, adult sites because of non-educational purpose.

When you diit an url on browser address bar or when you click on an hyperlink on web, a programme performs a filtering task: it checks on a blacklist whether the site is in or out.

If the site appears on the blacklist, your browser do not show the website but a warning page.

Take a Proxy!

Strategies ... Published by Cautela

Sometimes, filters can miss.
Suppose that the filter blocks social network sites and a page is wronglu categorized as social.

This is not a rare fault.

To avoid such events, you can use a web proxy.

A web proxy is a device or a server which acts on behalf of you to get a web page. You do not establish a direct connection between your pc and the target web server.

So when you request a page through a proxy, the proxy asks for the page to destination server, it gets the response and forward it to you: you only connect to proxy and not to the web server.

You can easily understand basically how proxies work: Young boys can not buy cigarettes, but if one asks an adult to procure cigarettes. Proxies work  like this.

Kind of proxy

Different means ... Pubblished by Cautela

Proxy are not all the same stuff.
The are different kind of proxies: trasparent proxies, non-trasparent ones, and cgi proxies.

Trasparent proxies acts silently and users do not need to change any parameters on their pc to use them.
Non-trasparent proxies require some configuration change in browser settings.

CGI proxies are easy to use: they are similar to a browser address bar: put the URL of a resource and press the GO button.
